The finance minister, Ishaq Dar, announced a significant increase of Rs10 per litre in the price of petrol during a late-night live address on Saturday. As a result, the price of petrol has surged to Rs282, effective from 12am on Sunday. Despite the increase in petrol prices, the prices of diesel and light diesel oil remain unchanged at Rs293 and Rs174.68, respectively. However, the price of kerosene has been raised by Rs5.78 to Rs186.07.

The increase in petroleum product prices was attributed to the surge in international market prices in the past 15 days. The rise in oil prices was driven by expectations of potential economic stimulus by China, healthy demand in the rest of Asia, and a drop in US crude stockpiles. Moreover, crude futures also climbed as the dollar eased on expectations that the US Federal Reserve was getting closer to ending its rate hike cycle, making oil cheaper for those holding other currencies.

وزیر خزانہ اسحاق ڈار نے ہفتے کو رات گئے لائیو خطاب کے دوران پیٹرول کی قیمت میں 10 روپے فی لیٹر اضافے کا اعلان کیا۔ جس کے نتیجے میں پیٹرول کی قیمت 282 روپے تک پہنچ گئی ہے، جس کا اطلاق اتوار کی صبح 12 بجے سے ہوگا۔ پیٹرول کی قیمتوں میں اضافے کے باوجود ڈیزل اور لائٹ ڈیزل آئل کی قیمتیں بالترتیب 293 روپے اور 174.68 روپے پر برقرار ہیں۔ تاہم مٹی کے تیل کی قیمت 5.78 روپے اضافے سے 186.07 روپے ہو گئی ہے۔ پیٹرولیم مصنوعات کی قیمتوں میں اضافے کی وجہ گزشتہ 15 دنوں میں بین الاقوامی مارکیٹ میں قیمتوں میں اضافہ ہے۔ تیل کی قیمتوں میں اضافہ چین کی جانب سے ممکنہ اقتصادی محرک، باقی ایشیا میں صحت مند طلب اور امریکی خام تیل کے ذخیرے میں کمی کی وجہ سے ہوا ہے۔ مزید برآں، خام مستقبل میں بھی اضافہ ہوا کیونکہ ڈالر ان توقعات پر نرم ہوا کہ یو ایس فیڈرل ریزرو اپنی شرح میں اضافے کے چکر کو ختم کرنے کے قریب پہنچ رہا ہے، جس سے دیگر کرنسی رکھنے والوں کے لیے تیل سستا ہو گیا ہے۔
