Traders Protest as Capital Development Authority Declares Car Showrooms Illegal
Islamabad, August 10, 2023 – The Building Control wing of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) carried out a sweeping operation on Tuesday, sealing 28 car showrooms located in sectors F-10, F-11, and the Blue Area of the city. The move came amid protests from the traders' community as the CDA classified the car showrooms as illegal establishments.
In a determined effort to reclaim order and conformity in the city's commercial spaces, the CDA initiated a crackdown on non-conforming land use, focusing particularly on the unauthorized usage of properties for car showroom purposes. This decision was made under the guidance of the CDA's chairman, who issued warnings through public advertisements to building and shop owners. The notices sternly advised against permitting their properties to be used for activities that did not align with the designated land use regulations.
The crackdown extended its reach to encompass 117 properties in Islamabad that were found to be functioning as car showrooms in violation of land use regulations.
