Karachi, Pakistan, August 11, 2023 - In a significant tribute to the transformative journey of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has announced the release of a special commemorative coin. The coin, with a denomination of Rs. 100, is being issued on the occasion of CPEC's 10th anniversary and will be available for exchange through SBP Banking Services Corporation's counters starting August 11, 2023.
The decision to mint this unique coin was made by the Pakistani government to honour the monumental contributions that CPEC has made to the nation's infrastructure and economic advancement since its inception in 2013.
The commemorative coin, meticulously crafted to capture the essence of CPEC's achievements, boasts a round shape with serrated edges. It measures 30.00 mm in diameter and carries a weight of 13.5 grams. The coin's composition features Cupro-Nickel metal, ensuring both durability and aesthetic appeal.
On the obverse side of the coin, a beautifully designed five-pointed star takes centre stage. This star artfully incorporates symbols from the national flags of both Pakistan and China - Pakistan's iconic crescent moon and star, alongside China's group of five stars. The star is elegantly inscribed with the words "CELEBRATING 10 YEARS OF CPEC" in English script. Meanwhile, the words "ISLAMI JAMHURIA PAKISTAN" are thoughtfully etched in Urdu script along the periphery. The coin's face value is boldly displayed in numerals as "100" and in Urdu script as "Rupiya," positioned on the right and left sides of the star, respectively.
Flipping the coin reveals a reverse side that mirrors the artistic finesse of the obverse. At its core, yet another intricately designed five-pointed star takes the spotlight, echoing the fusion of Pakistani and Chinese elements seen on the Obverse
. The star's upper portion gracefully carries the inscription "CHINA PAKISTAN ECONOMIC CORRIDOR" in both English and Chinese scripts, symbolizing the bilateral achievements of this corridor. The lower periphery is graced with the inscription "PAKISTAN CHEEN EQTESADI RAHDARI" in Urdu script and "FROM VISION TO REALITY" in English script, encapsulating the corridor's transformative journey.
A hallmark feature of the coin is the inclusion of the years "2013" and "2023" on the left and right centre, signifying the decade of remarkable progress and top-tier development facilitated by CPEC.
